UK to face legal action due to licensing plans

The UK government could face legal challenges over its plans to issue 130 new oil and gas licenses in the North Sea. Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and Uplift, has warned to launch legal action if the government does not properly assess the climate impact of the new offshore licensing round. This decision comes with issues like:

  • Increase in the emissions generated.
  • Energy and climate crises
  • Non-alignment to global climate targets
