The U.S. needs to do more to achieve climate goals

The increasing frequency of extreme heat waves and climate-related disasters across the U.S. has prompted several politicians to call for more urgent action. Washington state Governor Jay Inslee has called for a stop to the use of fossil fuels and that the U.S. must lead the climate fight. Palm Springs Mayor Grace Elena Garner has asked for more resources from the federal government to deal with the effects of climate change.

The short-term measures and longer-timeline initiatives undertaken by Washington state to reduce fossil fuel usage include:

  • Switching to electric-powered ferries
  • Stopping the sale of internal combustion cars after 2035
