U.S. – Expecting quick progress on World Bank reforms

In order to combat climate change and other global challenges, the World Bank plans to increase its lending capacity. According to U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the United States wants to see more rapid progress on these plans. According to the World Bank’s “evolution roadmap,” the organisation must negotiate with shareholders on recommendations for a capital increase and new lending tools before shareholder meetings in April.

This roadmap aims at:

  • Developing specific proposals to change its mission
  • Re-orienting the bank’s operational model to tackle climate risks
