Seattle-based startup develops recycled clothing made of denim

Seattle-based startup Evrnu will break ground in January on a cotton recycling facility in South Carolina. The company is partnering with U.K. fashion and textile innovator Pangaia to create recycled clothing to be made out of denim. Denim is among the hardest-to-recycle versions of cotton. The reason this move is significant is because it moves the industry a step closer to creating a commercial-scale circular economy for cotton that would drastically reduce the impact the cotton industry has on the planet.

Evrnu’s facility will follow a few environment-friendly measures, including:

  • Running primarily on renewable energy
  • It will have the capacity to produce around 80,000 T-shirts every year from recycled cotton clothing
